SERVE THE WORLD | ART MINISTRIES

Prayer Shawl Ministry
Each Wednesday evening, people get together to knit, crochet or loom shawls for persons who are going through difficult times.  But you may be part of this heartfelt ministry by making shawls at home or on your lunch hour. Each handmade shawl represents hours of prayer and wraps the recipients in the warmth of the church’s loving embrace. Knitting, crocheting and looming instruction is available upon request and yarn is provided. This ministry is also appropriate for youth.

Knitting for Noggins
Children’s Hospital in Little Rock has a goal of giving a handmade symbol of encouragement (a hat) to each and every patient. The smaller hats often help maintain the body temperatures of premature babies, but patients of all sizes appreciate knowing that someone cared enough to make them something soft and colorful. Join us by knitting, crocheting, sewing or looming hats for Children’s Hospital.

Prayer Pals
This new sewing ministry of youth and adults creates stuffed creatures out of socks or other fabrics that are then blessed in prayer and given to children or others who might benefit from an uplifting and fun gift of love. If you would like to learn basic sewing skills so that you can participate in this ministry, please contact Kelley McDonald at the church office.

Sew 'n Sew
The Sew 'n Sew group of youth and adults gathers together for two days per month to sew school bags for UMCOR that are distributed around the world to children who need assistance with school supplies. There is a job for everyone who is interested in participating. No sewing skills required to begin, but you will likely leave with a few after spending time with these helpful sewers! You may also sew bags at home if you are unable to meet at their scheduled time or would just like to participate more often.

Winter Gear for the Homeless

For the last two years, a group of JFUMC members have made a trip to downtown Little Rock to distribute the leftover meals from our Christmas Dinner. While we are handing out the meal boxes, we offer free hats, scarves and gloves to whomever would like them. If you would like to participate in this ministry, please place the items in the basket in the narthex that is marked Winter Gear for the Homeless. We will also gladly accept store-bought or gently-used items.

While we have distributed the items, we have talked to the recipients about what they prefer, and this is what they have told us:

For the children: bright, fun and warm items

For the ladies: coordinating sets of hats, gloves and a scarf that are both pretty and warm

For the men: plain, dark-colored, thick and warm items

If you would like to learn to make hats, contact Kelley McDonald at the church office at 982-8176 or by email.
