SERVE THE WORLD | FEEDING OUR COMMUNITY

Check out the Mission 5000 2nd Annual BBQ Benefit!

Mission 5000
On Christmas Day of 2009, JFUMC opened it's doors to the community by hosting a free Christmas Dinner. It was a wonderful day of new friendships and wonderful food, and volunteers also delivered more than 500 meals to the homeless that afternoon.  After the day was over, several people began to pray and dream of ways to do that more than once a year.

By the Spring of 2010, the church took a step of faith and began to serve a free community meal every Saturday from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. The goal was to serve 5000 meals over the course of the next year, and was named "Mission 5000" to remind us of the meal that Jesus served the crowds that came to see him.

The goal 5000 was surpassed before the end of 2010, and Mission 5000 continued without missing a single week.  On average, about 150 meals are served each week. In addition to the weekly meals, Mission 5000 has served thousands of meals at special community outreach events!

On September 14, 2011, Mission 5000 is expanded to a second weekly meal that will be held from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm each Wednesday evening in the Family Life Center.  This will allow families and individuals to have a free, healthy meal in the middle of the week, and to spend some time in fellowship.  We invite children, youth, and adults to take part in one of the music or mission groups that will take place at the church each Wednesday evening!

Christmas Dinner

Beginning in 2008, volunteers from our church and community have gathered at the church on Christmas Day to prepare a free Christmas lunch for the community. We have found it to be a refreshing way to spend the holiday and like the way it puts the focus of the season right where it needs to be -- on celebrating the birth of Christ and on putting his radical methods of love into action on a regular basis. Come and join us if you are wanting to transform your Christmas from a time of commercialism into one of selfless giving.
