SERVE THE WORLD | BEYOND THE WALLS

Serving our community and serving the world is not an either-or choice. At JFUMC, we have a strong presence in our local communities, but we also focus on global mission projects.

MISSION TRIPS

Plans are underway for at least three mission trips in 2012-2013:

  • Youth Mission Trip. The youth plan their own trip each year, and have gone to San Antonio, Chicago, Biloxi, and Mexico in past years. This year, the youth are hosting a trip to St. Louis, MO June 3-8, 2012.  They will do home repairs in a community struggling to recover from storm damage.  They will also enjoy a 4th of July fireworks show near the Arch, attend a Cardinals game, and enjoy St. Louis with some other fun activities.
  • Sager Brown (Baldwin, Lousiana).  This trip works out of one of the global distributions centers for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), and is scheduled for April 21-26, 2013.  This is an adult mission trip that has limited spots.  The team will help prepare, package, and ship items for disaster relief, new schools, and health initiatives around the world.  The group takes the school bags made by the "Sew 'n Sew" group through each year, and last year packed and shipped a truck load of flood kits for the Mississippi River floods.
  • Zimbabwe Mission.  We are planning a mission trip to Zimbabwe, Africa for July 2013.  It will include some light construction work, some tourism, and two Sundays of worship over a two-week period (including travel time).

We are also in prayer for a trip to Chile or Africa when the time is right.  Our church supports a missionary in Santiago, Chile, and also supports a school in Zimbabwe, Africa.

Feel free to explore about some of these missions by clicking the links in the left column of this page!

MISSION POSSIBLE

This fall, JFUMC is launching Mission Possible Kids and GLOW Kids, two children's mission programs  that will focus on a different mission every 4-6 weeks.  Mission projects will be hands-on, and will include projects as flood buckets, fund-raisers for the Africa school, drives for area shelters, and more!

Mission Possible Kids' programs will resume their weekly meetings in September 2012 on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Children's Center.  It is open to children from four years of age through fifth grade.  You can learn more about Mission Possible Kids and GLOW Kids by clicking on the "Children" link in the main menu above.

Our youth will also begin to partner with others for similar mission projects, and we hope to develop more mission projects for adults (in addition to the Prayer Shawl group that meets that evening).  You can learn more about other mission projects in the "Art Ministries" and "Feeding our Community" links above.
